The IT world is probably full of
more jargon than any other industry , therefore this page
attempts to sum up what Microsoft Dynamics AX actually is , in
simple non-techie, layman's terms. |
AX is a software package that runs
your everyday business processes and makes them more
efficient.
Once the core software is
installed , on a windows based computer (and
there is a database AX can connect to for storing the actual
information you enter) then you can connect to AX from any
number of PC's or laptops.
When you connect
to AX ,the menu and the programs that you
can use are then dependent upon the permissions you have
been given.
The programs within AX cover everything you
would find in a normal business, and whilst everything it can do is
not listed here , these include things like ;
HR ( you
set up and record your staff details) Accounts (General
(nominal) , Sales and Purchase ledgers) Bank
management (statement reconciliations) Payroll
Assets Management (recording and depreciation
etc) Manufacturing (Bill of materials, job scheduling)
Purchasing Stock Control Sales Orders , Quotations ,
Invoicing CRM (contacts ,customer, business relationship
management) Warehouse Control Projects and Service
contracts A built in report writer , so you can easily write your
own reports ( if the hundreds of reports that come as standard
do not quite fit the bill)
You ( as a user) can also change
what is shown on the screens you see - so you can remove or rename
things so it makes more sense to you
You can then
also work with the other Windows Office products very
easily , for example ; In word you can write a
letter and include the customer or any other details that exist
in your main AX system , without actually leaving
Word.
You can enter appointments in
Outlook and then automatically transfer this information
into AX so you can keep track of your time and costs and possibly
charge the end customer. This can also come under the heading of
time sheet management , but again you can do all this without
actually going into AX.
Expense claims can be handled
through Excel but AX will also be updated
AX has
built in functionality to send reports straight
to Excel
You can have a Web site for your own
internal use and personalise each page ( often known as
Portals) and of course you can let your customers
and suppliers use the Web to access information or place orders ,
making life simpler for everyone.
AX is
really a complete solution , but if you do not manufacture anything
, or do not have a warehouse you simply leave these
applications "switched off" and AX won't try and use
them.
You may only have a few employees, but that
is ok too , AX can scale from two users to
hundreds.
We hope this helps you to understand a
little more what AX is all about.
